Welcome to My Weebly Tricks, a resource for Weebly site owners who want to go beyond the basics. Here you'll find step-by-step guides on adding image effects, slideshows, navigation scripts, text animations, countdown timers, and more — all tailored for the Weebly platform.
Small visual details can make a Weebly website feel more polished. A phone icon beside a contact number, a shopping basket in a button, or a location pin in a footer can help visitors understand a page before they read every word.
Font Awesome is a popular icon library that works well with Weebly’s drag-and-drop editor. Its icons are delivered through CSS, so you can add them to headings, buttons, menus, feature boxes, forms, and custom HTML without editing the whole theme.
The process involves loading the Font Awesome stylesheet, placing an icon element where it belongs, and adding a little CSS for size, colour, spacing, or alignment. You do not need to rebuild your template or install a complicated plugin.
This approach is useful for Australian businesses and bloggers that want a clear mobile layout for visitors in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, or regional areas. Icons can also make practical details such as delivery, opening hours, local service areas, and contact options easier to scan.
Start by browsing the free icons in the Font Awesome library. Each icon has a class name, such as fa-house, fa-envelope, fa-phone, fa-cart-shopping, or fa-location-dot. You will use that class name in the HTML placed on your website.
Sign in to Weebly and open the site you want to edit. For an icon inside a page section, drag an Embed Code element into the required position. The element may be placed beside text, above a button, or inside a feature block. Weebly’s editor can show a placeholder while you work, but the finished icon appears in preview and on the published page.
For site-wide use, such as icons in the header or footer, go to the relevant theme or SEO settings where custom header code is available. Adding the stylesheet globally means you can reuse the same icon classes throughout the website. If you only need one icon on one page, page-level code is usually easier to manage.
Keep a note of the exact icon class. Font Awesome distinguishes between styles such as solid, regular, and brands. For example, a Facebook icon uses a brand class, while a house or arrow generally uses a solid class. Copying the complete class name prevents many display errors.
The simplest method is to add a stylesheet link to the site header. In Weebly, open the site settings or theme customisation area that accepts header code, then paste this line:
<link rel="stylesheet"
href="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/font-awesome/6.5.2/css/all.min.css">
Save the settings and publish, or preview the website to load the library. The version shown in the link is an example. A later Font Awesome release may use a different path, so check the provider’s current file if the icons stop appearing in the future.
Some Weebly plans or theme editors make header-code access less obvious. Look under Settings, SEO, Advanced, or the theme’s HTML/CSS editor, depending on the dashboard version. Avoid placing a <link> tag inside a visible text box because visitors may see the code instead of the icon.
You can also add the stylesheet before the icon markup in an Embed Code element when testing a single page:
<link rel="stylesheet"
href="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/font-awesome/6.5.2/css/all.min.css">
<i class="fa-solid fa-leaf" aria-hidden="true"></i>
Loading a trusted external library has performance and privacy implications. Check that the source is reliable, use HTTPS, and review your site’s privacy notice if third-party resources are loaded for visitors. A clear privacy policy is especially important for Australian sites that collect enquiries, mailing-list sign-ups, or customer information.
After the stylesheet is available, place the icon in an Embed Code element with a short HTML snippet:
<span class="my-icon" aria-hidden="true">
<i class="fa-solid fa-location-dot"></i>
</span>
Replace fa-location-dot with the icon you selected. A phone icon could use fa-phone, a calendar could use fa-calendar-days, and a delivery feature could use fa-truck. The outer <span> gives you a custom hook for styling without changing every other Font Awesome icon on the site.
To pair an icon with text, use a meaningful HTML structure:
<p class="contact-line">
<i class="fa-solid fa-phone" aria-hidden="true"></i>
<a href="tel:+61290000000">Call our Sydney office</a>
</p>
Change the number to the correct Australian telephone number. The tel: link is useful on mobile devices, where many visitors expect to tap a number rather than copy it manually. For a local business, a label such as “Call our Sydney office” is clearer than an icon on its own.
You can add an icon to a button as well:
<a class="icon-button" href="/contact">
<i class="fa-solid fa-envelope" aria-hidden="true"></i>
Contact us
</a>
The text should explain the action. An envelope alone may look attractive, but it does not provide enough information for every visitor or assistive technology user.
Add CSS through Weebly’s theme editor or the site’s custom CSS area. This example controls the icon’s colour, scale, spacing, and alignment:
.my-icon {
display: inline-flex;
align-items: center;
justify-content: center;
width: 2.5rem;
height: 2.5rem;
margin-right: 0.5rem;
border-radius: 50%;
background: #1769aa;
color: #ffffff;
font-size: 1.15rem;
vertical-align: middle;
}
.contact-line i {
margin-right: 0.4rem;
color: #1769aa;
}
.icon-button {
display: inline-flex;
align-items: center;
gap: 0.5rem;
padding: 0.75rem 1rem;
background: #1769aa;
color: #ffffff;
text-decoration: none;
border-radius: 4px;
}
Use your brand colours rather than copying these values. Make sure text and icons have enough contrast against the background. This matters for older visitors, people browsing in bright Australian sunlight, and users viewing a page on a small mobile screen.
For a simple colour change, add a class directly to the icon:
<i class="fa-solid fa-star feature-star" aria-hidden="true"></i>
.feature-star {
color: #e09b00;
font-size: 1.4rem;
}
Avoid relying on colour alone to communicate an error, warning, or successful action. Add visible words such as “Required”, “Unavailable”, or “Order received” so the meaning remains clear for colour-blind visitors and screen readers.
If an icon is decorative, aria-hidden="true" prevents assistive technology from announcing an unnecessary symbol. When an icon carries the meaning itself, provide an accessible label:
<a href="/contact" aria-label="Contact our team">
<i class="fa-solid fa-envelope" aria-hidden="true"></i>
</a>
Icons can organise product information without taking up much space. A Weebly shop might use a truck for delivery, a lock for secure payment, a calendar for booking availability, or a map pin for a collection point. Keep the wording beside each icon so visitors can scan the feature and understand it immediately.
For an Australian store, delivery wording should be precise. “Australia-wide shipping”, “Sydney metro delivery”, or “Pick up in Geelong” tells customers more than a generic truck symbol. If your site sells goods, make sure the surrounding information agrees with your shipping, refund, and consumer guarantees obligations under Australian Consumer Law.
Checkout customisation deserves care because payment and order pages handle sensitive information. Before changing a shop’s purchase flow, review this guide to customising the checkout page and test the result on both desktop and mobile layouts.
Icons also work well for service areas and opening times. A map pin beside “Newcastle and the Hunter”, a clock beside trading hours, or a sun icon beside outdoor appointment information can add visual structure. Check that these details remain accurate during Australian public holidays, daylight-saving changes in states that observe them, and seasonal trading periods.
Do not add an icon to every line of a page. Too many symbols compete for attention and can make a page feel like a collection of buttons. Use a consistent style and reserve icons for navigation, key actions, short feature lists, and important contact details.
Publish a test version or use Weebly preview, then inspect the page in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and a mobile browser. A common problem is seeing an empty square or a missing symbol. This usually means the stylesheet did not load, the class name is wrong, or the selected icon belongs to a Font Awesome style that is not included in the loaded file.
Check the page source or browser developer tools to confirm that the CSS file returns successfully. If you used a version-specific CDN link, verify that the version exists. Also look for spelling mistakes such as fa-solid fa-phone being written as fa-solids fa-phone.
Review responsive behaviour at narrow widths. Long button labels, large icons, and generous padding can force a row to wrap awkwardly on an iPhone or Android device. Use relative sizing such as rem, allow buttons to wrap naturally, and test both portrait and landscape views.
Accessibility testing should include keyboard navigation, visible focus states, readable text, and sensible link labels. An icon should support the page’s meaning rather than replace it. Run a contrast checker on your chosen colours and test the page with browser zoom increased to 200 percent.
Finally, confirm that external assets do not slow the page unnecessarily. If only one decorative symbol is needed, a small inline SVG may be more efficient than loading a large icon library. Font Awesome remains convenient when a site uses several icons across menus, contact blocks, product sections, and calls to action.
Add one useful icon to a low-risk page first, such as a contact section or service feature block. Load the stylesheet, paste the markup, apply a site-appropriate colour, and check the published result on both a computer and a mobile phone. Once the pattern works, reuse the same classes consistently across your Weebly website.
